For mobile use on vehicles, MTM Power has developed a special product line of on-board DC/DC converters series PCMDS400/600-FT with 400 and 600 W output power.

Remarkable feature of the series is the design suitable for applications with protection degree IP67. This is realised by the worlwide unique thermoselective vacuum encapsulation (U.S. Patent No. 8,821,778 B2) in combination with a corresponding connection of the DC/DC converters via IP67-capable flat connectors.

Although every ounce of weight is crucial particularly in the electric mobility field, MTM Power nevertheless decided to also encapsulate under thermoselective vacuum these on-board DC/DC converters for electric vehicles. The advantages that can be achieved from this patented technology are simply too genious. They include perfect protection of the completely enclosed electronics from environmental influences and mechanical stresses such as shock and vibration, as well as a relatively homogeneous temperature distribution. All the hot spots that are otherwise difficult to cool are thermally coupled to the cooling surfaces via the encapsulation. The service life of the power electronics is remarkably increased because electrolyte losses of electrolytic capacitors do not occur with the thermoselective vacuum encapsulation.
